Why do the Omega 3 capsules consist of fish oil and not of vegetable oil (natural sources)?
Both oils contain Omega 3 fatty acids. But there are different groups of Omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil and vegetable oil. Fish oils have EPA and DHA fatty acids, and vegetable oils contain ALA fatty acids. For our organism the most important are EPA and DHA. EPA and DHA are present in the brain, nerves, eyes (retina) and are vital nutrients because they support optimal function of the heart, blood vessels, brain, nerves, eyes, skin and joints. Vegetable oils contain ALA (Alfa linoleic acid). In some of us the body can convert ALA into EPA, but the biggest difference between fish oils and vegetables oils is: not all of us can convert ALA into EPA and DHA.The conversion is generally less in older people. Even if the body converts ALA in EPA we still need DHA for vital functions. And because we don’t know who can convert ALA, we should use fish oil’s Omega 3 capsules to be sure that we get enough EPA and DHA.
