Why do the fire trucks and ambulances use their sirens at 3 a.m.?
The State of Ohio mandates that any time a fire or EMS unit responds (including volunteer members from their residence) that an emergency beacon (light) and a noise-iminating device (siren) be used at all times. The department’s policy echoes this, but also includes wording that states that siren use it is at the members discretion after dark when no traffic hazard is present.
