Why do the Aerial Photos look different than before?

0

Since the inception of GIS in Lucas County in 1996, we have periodically acquired orthophotography (aerial photos). The first set of orthophotography was acquired in 1995 and a second set was acquired in 1998. These first two flights were performed with a traditional form of film photography. Although the quality of these pictures was exceptional, the cost was steep and the processing time was approximately one year. In the interest of being able to acquire photography more frequently, Lucas County contracted with a company to create aerial photos using digital photography. Generating the photos in this manner costs 1/10th as much as the traditional photography and has processing time of only a one(1) month. This will enable the County to receive new orthophotos on a yearly basis. In order to maximize the usefullness of AREIS Online, we intend to research the possibility of displaying the new digital imagery, as well as the older version of the aerial photos.
