Why do the ADSP-218x DSPs have their own EZ-ICE emulator?

The ADSP-218x family of DSPs does not have a JTAG port like the rest of ADI’s DSPs. Instead, they have a proprietary port that requires a different type of emulator. You can’t use one of our JTAG based emulators ( HPPCI-ICE, USB/HPUSB-ICE) with a ADSP-218x system. Instead, you need to use the ADSP-218x EZ-ICE.
