Why do teens worry about their body image?
Body image is the picture you have of your body; what it looks like in the mirror. Body image and self-esteem go hand in hand. Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself. There are many pressures from society to look a certain way. For women, being tall, thin and beautiful are society’s standards. For men, being muscular is important. We are influenced by magazines, television, celebrities, fashion, our families, our friends, coaches, and many more. We get bogged down with stereotypes that sometimes we forget that we are all different and unique in our own way. We all have something different to offer. We can’t measure our success and happiness in terms of how we look, it’s really what we have accomplished, if we helped others……it’s who we are on the inside that counts.
