Why do teachers get more kids than daycare workers?

0

In a school setting there is not just 1 teacher and 18+ children alone in a building. There are usually administrators, custodians, aides, etc throughout the building. When I worked in daycare, I was responsible for 5 infants and didn’t feel like I was taking very good care of them. There was another teacher in the room who was taking care of 7 to 10 two and three year olds. She had her hands full and was not free to help me should I need it. When I taught kindergarten and first grade, I had as many as 24 children but if I needed help there were adults I could call to lend a hand if a child needed his/her clothes changed or had a nosebleed. etc. Most daycare centers run a pretty skeleton crew. The adult to child ratio in daycares varies depending on the age of the children. If you have a home daycare with one person responsible for all the care then the ratio is low if you have a range of ages.
