Why do students need to know how to measure in standard units and in metric units?

Most of the world uses metric. So, if you live in one of the places that uses “Standard” measures, it would make sense to know the way that you will usually be measuring things at home, and the way that the rest of the world measures things. That way, if you decide to travel, or move to another country, you won’t be a complete idiot when it comes to measurements. You will also be able to convert one measurement to another.
