Why do SSRI drugs cause side effects ?

0

When you are tweaking chemicals in your brain there are going to be different reactions. Not everyone has the same reactions or to the same extent. MOST side effects lesson and go away withing a few days, though some you will experience for the entire time you are on the medication. For this reason it may take some time to find the right medication and the right dosage for each person. The question we must ask ourselves is…is the side effect worse than the problem for which we are taking the medication, i.e., is a bit of initial dizziness worse than ongoing panic attacks. Many medications cause side effects and certainly the SSRI’s are not the only ones. Antipsychotics, anti-cholesterol, heart meds, asthma drugs…all have side effects. Again, you cannot tweak the brain or body with drugs and no expect to have some side effects. Only you and your doctor can make the decision as to whether or not the need for the medication outweights the side effects.
