I think we ALL should learn each others history and how history impacts the present and try to have empathy to each other. I am biracial and most the black people I know do not believe white people today must apologize for what some white people’s ancestors did. But I also think some people are very uninformed if they believe slavery, segregation, and discrimnation are all ancient history with no relation to the present. I am not sure how that church “forced” white families to apologize for slavery. I don’t see any point in trying to shame anyone into apologizing for something they themselves did not even do. There are some whites who have felt like apologizing for their slaveholder ancestors, just as some young Germans feel a need to apologize for Nazi grandparents, which is fine if it makes them feel better but they should not be treated as if they arethe same people who were responsible. There have been many cultures that faced oppression and done quite nicely – Armenians, Jews, Japanese etc… These groups have built themselves a place in this country by prioritizing their lives in a positive way. Bill Cosby said it best… Black people are holding themselves down… Someone holding me down! – Their afraid of me! Start by pulling up your pants and acting like an adult. Show some pride in your community and then maybe you’ll be viewed in a better light.

if we were inherently racist then we wouldn’t apologize in fact non-whites would be treated the way non-Chinese are treated by the Chinese government or the way immigrants are treated in Mexico. I’m not saying everyone has a great life in America but elsewhere the government pretty much tells people to either deal with it or go away and they would prefer that you just go away.
