Why do some skincare products contain alcohol?
Plants, herbs, and flowers are extracted using alcohol because of its ability to extract the most components. Used as an emulsifier, preservative and carrier alcohol helps the ingredients penetrate the skin. Many types of alcohol found in skincare are a natural occurrence in the products compounding process. Following are two common types of alcohol found in products: Benzyl Alcohol: A naturally occurring part of the essential oil fragrance that makes up the scent. Cetearyl Alcohol or Cetyl Alcohol: emulsifier from heavy plant oils like palm and coconut.
