Why do some people watch professional wrestling?
I consider it sort of like an exaggerated, live action sports film. You get your drama, comedy, and everything you can get from scripted entertainment, mixed in with the inherent rivalries and athleticism of sports, and then heightened to include such different things that can’t be found in any form of entertainment. It’s no different than any other TV show or movie people watch, pro wrestling just mixes in that scripted entertainment with sports. And yet people call it “fake” and criticize it, then go on to watch a scripted sports show like Friday Night Lights or movie like Rudy or any of their “reality” TV shows. I enjoy other sports, and I like MMA as well. But professional wrestling provides me with something else, some different. The name says it all, pro wrestling is sports entertainment. And I just happen to be entertained.
WWE at the moment is a really crappy soap opera at the moment so I really wouldn’t grade anything on that. But I think pro wrestling is the fantasy of it. In real fighting you can’t have two giants fighting in a cage with weapons and not have it last less then two seconds. And in Real fighting there are no flips or anything and submission holds last only 2 seconds before someone taps. Plainly put. Wrestling allows things to happen that in fighting wouldn’t happen. And besides it is fun to watch some of the good stuff like ring of honor.Don’t bother judging from TNA or WWE. Then I agree with you.
Because we are entertained by it. Just like how you are entertained by MMA, people who watch Professional Wrestling are entertained by it. There is no fascination, there is no research needed. We just like it, just like people watch Lost and House and Desperate Housewives and The Tonight Show and The O’Reilly Factor and NBA and NFL and NHL and MLB and other shows. There’s no need to bash Professional Wrestling fans, and watching UFC doesn’t make you more masculine than anyone else. You question the merit of Professional Wrestling, but watch MMA, and it’s just as dangerous? People in Professional Wrestling do moves and stunts by choice, not by force.
