Why do some people support immigration reform?
Everyone supports immigration reform. Just what exactly “reform” means differs wildly. It could encompass anything from creating a cap on the total American population to rounding up illegal immigrants and shipping them all to Mexico—whether they come from Mexico or not. Or we could increase aid to Latin American countries for economic expansion, thus removing most reasons for immigration to the U.S. in the first place. Exactly where you plant your flag on the issue probably has a lot to do with how you view the massive flood of immigrants, both legal and illegal, on American soil. Some Americans took to echoing the sentiments of former Republican hopeful Ron Paul’s inability to deal with the hassle of dialing “1 for English.” And on a more local level, our friends in Georgia’s Minutemen chapters took to hanging around Home Depot parking lots and writing down the tag numbers of business owners who hired the immigrants milling about for day labor.
