Why do some people have to endure so much while others live relatively carefree lives?
[print] [email] I think this question asks what is the purpose of our earth lives. The Urantia Book’s explanation is that material existence is provided so that our personalities have the soil in which to grow a soul, the vehicle required for the personality to function in the spiritual realms. Material existence provides both challenges and rewards which can lead to soul growth. A life of challenge often provides better opportunity for spiritual growth than one which offers all the benefits of material existence. Of course as the world evolves more and more toward light and life the material existence won’t be as unequal as it is now and as it has been throughout history. Even so, the object of living isn’t so much to achieve comfort as it is to achieve perception, insight, experience and faith, the things which contribute to soul growth.
