Why do some people hate and fear those who are different in color, religion or ethnic origin?

Hate and fear are two different things. In general, people are more comfortable with what they are familiar with, be it religion, race, food, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientation, etc. Sometimes, people are ‘afraid’ of what they’re not familiar with; what they don’t understand. Some will try to learn about, understand and accept these differences, but ignorant people don’t even try to learn or accept the unfamiliar because THAT’s out of their comfort zone –It’s easier for them to have groundless hateful feelings or believe previously perpetuated mistruths than to actually make an effort.
