Why do some people dread RPI events?

There are many who reach the mid-point of the RPI week and pull me aside to say that they were skeptical at the beginning of the week, but now they are glad that they had the opportunity to be on the team. (It is always good to meet an honest person!) I think there are various reasons, but the underlying skepticism (or flat-out dread of RPI) comes from lack of familiarity. Not knowing the other people in the group, speaking out your ideas to those unknown teammates, presenting your solutions to the whole organization, having seen other “improvement initiatives” fail before – there are many things that cause people to dread an RPI event. But the structure is built on a supportive team approach and getting actual input from those who do the work.
