Why do some people develop glomerulonephritis and others do not?
We do not know why some people develop glomerulonephritis while others do not. Neither do we know why some have a mild attack while others develop renal failure. It is believed that certain individuals have the ability to clear rapidly the complexes formed and therefore do not develop nephritis. Others may have some deficiency in the immune system which causes poor clearance of the complexes, resulting in nephritis. What are the symptoms and signs of glomerulonephritis? There may be blood or protein in the urine. In certain types of nephritis, patients pass frank blood (gross haematuria) in the urine. Swelling (edema) of the face and legs, passing little urine and high blood pressure are some of the other features. What are the symptoms of a patient with Acute Nephritis? He passes blood in the urine which is visible to the naked eye, has swelling of the face and legs and suffers from high blood pressure. He also passes very little urine. Sometimes this is associated with a sore throat
