Why do some people consider earrings on males to be unprofessional?
Well, on some males, and females, piercings DO look unprofessional. It depends how you wear them and if they suit your style. I have seen earrings that are a great eyesore and others that could actually be called part of a professional appearance. As a teenager with limited career options, I wouldn’t suspect piercings would interfere with your professionalism or ability to perform the jobs available to you. However, there are employers and companies that will unfairly judge you. They may defend their judgement on the grounds that if you are working with customers the customers don’t want to be served by someone with piercings or they may simply deem that you are not the type of person they wish to hire because if you have piercings you probably live a lifestyle they don’t approve of. Legally an employer may not be able to discriminate against you for having piercings, I would check into the law where you live.
