Why do some MP3s downloaded from the web have poor audio quality?
The MP3 format uses high compression and a low bit rate to achieve smaller file sizes and is far from being true CD quality. If you have downloaded your MP3s from the internet, then these files may have been made low quality to save space and speed up downloading. If you are converting your own songs to MP3 from CDs, ensure you use high quality settings encoding the files at 192kbs or higher (or use a lossless setting if your software supports this option). While the resulting file size will be bigger, the quality and crispness of the music will be noticeably improved.
