Why do some light skinned black people think they e more superior than dark skinned???
Hi, my friend was actually doing a paper over this topic. It is because the media portrays the ideal “beautiful” black woman as being light skinned with straight hair and a thin figure. Basically, it is because they want them to have more of a “European-like” look and that anything other than that, is not acceptable or attractive. You can tell them, that you are proud of whom you are and that you had no control over how you look and that you are embracing your beauty as a black woman without having to give in to the cliche popular trend of how a black woman should look. Also, tell them, why do they feel the need to mess with you if they think so highly of themselves, and perhaps they are just trying to give themselves a confidence boost while trying to be what others want them to be and at least you are not a slave to that trend.
I don’t know why this happens, but i do know that this is not only an African problem. Dark skinned people are often viewed as being inferior in many Asian countries also. Some women even go to the lengths of bleaching their skin in order to get a lighter complexion which is very dangerous so please never consider this as an option – you could end up scarred for life. I would report what these girls are doing to someone at your school or college as this is a form of racism (they are picking on you purely because of the shade of your skin – the fact that they are also black does not mean they are not being racist) and if your school does nothing to stop it then i would call the police. You should be proud of your apperance – these girls are only picking on your because they are ignorant, insecure and immature.
PLEASE READ THIS FROM THE WIKIPEDIA:- William Lynch’s alleged method used to cause hatred between the slaves was a deep division in regard to the skin tones of the slaves. “Light-skinned” blacks are believed to have fared better under the conditions of slavery given this doctrine; being allowed tasks requiring authority over other slaves, and were generally assigned to tasks within the house of the slave master himself. Conversely, the “dark-skinned” slaves were confined to the fields, performed back-breaking labor, and generally did not enjoy the privileges of the lighter-skinned slaves. This, it is contended, would have caused discontent among the slaves, thus executing Lynch’s “divide and conquer” method of control. I AM ALSO DARK SKINNED AND PROUD!!!
