Why do some internal email messages get returned as undeliverable when the recipients short name is typed in the To field?
Outlook maintains a nickname list that is used by both the automatic name checking and the automatic completion features. The nickname list is automatically generated while you use Outlook. If the nickname cache is corrupted, Outlook may not be able to identify recipients, may offer incorrect recipients when automatically completing the email address, or may send the message to the wrong person. You can remove the corrupt names by highlighting the incorrect address in the list that is presented (use the cursor up and down to move between entires) and then use the delete key You can also create a new nickname cache using method suggested at http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/assistance/HA011240661033.aspx . The nickname cache file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and once you have made the change, your nickname cache will be rebuilt from scratch.
