Some games, DVD software, (and other programs) are programmed to bypass the settings you make in Windows. These programs are typically DOS based programs. Windows is supposed to control your computer. Strictly speaking, any program that does not use Windows to control the computer is a non-standard program that is NOT Windows compatible. Games are notorious for controlling the display directly instead of going through Windows. Once the Windows settings that you made have been bypassed (and the refresh rate changed), there is nothing that you can do to bring your scan rate back to 60 Hz. You must be able to do this from within the game program. Sometimes changing the colors and/or screen size can bring the image back to your TV.
