Why do some foods or drinks smell better than they taste?

some foods don’t taste of much, so if you have a blocked nose they taste of little or nothing. Smell and taste are very similar, smell is the detection of volatile gaseous chemicals and taste is the detection of liquid chemicals. Many taste chemicals are only soluble in fat, so fatty food can have more taste. For me the ultimate example is cheese, it stinks like a smelly foot, but the non-volatile chemicals dissolved in the fat of the cheese taste ok.
