Why do some EU countries have an official language ?

I don’t know where you heard that the UK does not have an official language but you are misinformed. English is the official language of the United Kingdom. They also recognize the various Celtic languages: Irish, Scots Gaelic, Welsh, etc. I believe this throws your whole argument out the window. Furthermore, the UK is just as nationalistic in regards to English as the French are to their language. It is pure ignorance to assume that citizens of the UK do not take pride in their language and it’s history. As for high unemployment in Germany I think you miss the big picture. Who do you think is forced to bail out the likes of Greece and Spain? The most powerful economy in all of Europe and one of the strongest in the world: Germany. Edit: Please look at this link, which is from the government: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentci… English is indeed the official language. Ho
