Why do some buildings receive U.S. mail delivery from the USPS and some from Station 17?

Service patterns reflect agreements made between Vanderbilt and the Postal Service, in some cases going back many years. In general, the large buildings on the campus itself, which contain the bulk of the Medical Center’s activities, are serviced by Station 17. Smaller buildings on the periphery of the campus, which often represent leased space and may contain non-VUMC activities, are usually served by their local Post Office. In either case, however, Station 17 processes campus mail for all medical areas.
