Why do some atheists deride Christians for believing in God when they themselves believe in astrology?
I think the only thing more stupid than believing in astrology is believing in a deity. Perhaps there are atheists who look at their horoscopes (as do some Christians, I know Fireball does for a start, though they shouldn’t), but they’re just nonsense. Most atheists have more sense, and NONE of them “believe” in they way you suggest.
Straw man argument. Offered without evidence to back it up. I am an atheist, and I don’t believe in astrology any more than I do the Bible, or Bigfoot, or Crystal Healing or any other silly, irrational idea that is lacking evidence. You also make the mistake of assuming atheists are a homogeneous group who all share the same beliefs. Atheism is not an ideology. I know lots of atheists both here and in “real life”, and not a single one follows astrology. The only thing atheists have in common is a lack of belief in deities. We typically are skeptical of a lot of other silly ideas as well, and I expect the number of atheists who believe in astrology is very low.
I don’t know of anybody who believes in astrology, although I wouldn’t be surprised if some atheists did. In the same vein, I wouldn’t be surprised if some believe in crystal healing or dream catchers. It would be just as wrong to say that no atheists believe in astrology as it would to say they all do. People are odd. We all like to think we are sensible and rational, but not all of us are all of the time. For instance, I think that I’m good looking….
