It’s because some men, and not just American men, tend towards misogyny due to a lack of self-confidence and realization about how to interact with others of the opposite sex in any sort of meaningful way. Generally, women who have made themselves available, or more often have been made available, for “sale” as brides are often desperate to leave where ever they are from for various reasons, such as personal or family financial straits or the desire for a presumed better life. This type of mental state tends to make a person far more malleable and perhaps even submissive to the person perceived as their “savior” or “rescuer”.
