Why do so many parents claim that Supernanny and Nanny 911 area rubbish?
I totally agree with your last sentence. We don’t get Nanny 911, but I watch Supernanny. I really do think it is because she has to step in and show them what they are doing wrong, and how doing things right and consistently is much better for the children, and the family as a whole. Basically, a lot of the problems parents have with parenting is simply being lazy – yes, I said it. Not being consistent – and putting in the time and hard work to help out your kids learn proper behaviour – is a huge problem with ‘bad’ parenting. Yes, of course it’s hard work – no one said it would be easy. But it IS EASY when you are all on the right track! Supernanny uses many techniques which teachers use as well, so I knew they worked long before I was a mom myself! And, as you say, LOTS of it is common sense!
