Why do so many cultures have myths of the same animals and the cultures never crossed paths?

This could be a prime example of how there are things that can’t be explained. If Pangaea was an accurate answer than that automatically suggests that the ancestors of human beings were sapient enough for not only language but whole mythologies and myth sequences in great detail. As for the idea of collective thought… on what level is that more comforting or accurate than the idea that some of these creatures and myths occurred, granted they were likely made larger than life in tales, but why not something smaller scale originally. It is in human nature to record… but it is also in human nature to exaggerate. I would say that the reason so many of these cultural similarities seem impossible is because the people who study myth rarely study biology and vice versa. Cartesian thought can never explain it all.
