And I’m not so sure they’re directed towards ‘normal’ American children as they are directed to hispanic children. (Just to clarify, when I say ‘normal’ American children, I mean children who do not grow up with parents and family who fluently speak Spanish) The media knows just as much as anyone else that many more hispanic families have moved into the US recently and they want to attract those people. Since these children grow up knowing two languages, they sense that having a TV show that teaches kids words in Spanish will help to further their fluent ability in the language as well as English. Think about when you saw Sesame Street a decade ago; it taught kids how to count, spell, and had some good teaching tools; in fact the show was scientifically formulated to teach kids and developed by scientists.
