Why do so many Answerbag users have such poor spelling and grammar skills?
Too much television; too many video games, and way, way too much casual internet stuff, like chat rooms. How can spelling improve when everyone misspells the same word five different ways? People are proving President Bush’s point when he said, “The illiteracy level of our children are appalling.” -Washington, D.C., Jan. 23, 2004. He makes a good point. The only thing that’s worse, of course, is the horrific lack of grammar skills in our adults. Seems like now, there’s not enough time spent on developing good reading habits. When I was a kid, the main branch of the Memphis Public Library was across the street. I read a lot. For over ten years, all kinds of books, magazines, comic books, everything but school textbooks. Everything was interesting at the library. Lunch and recess were interesting in grade school. My friends and I didn’t spend much time on the internet, that’s for sure. Getting online is easy now. Imagine what it was like thirty years ago, if you catch my drift, and I bet
