Guess its just an assumption on their part, I used to think all Americans spoke the same but like us they have different accents for different parts of America, we live and learn.

I know! It gets on my nerves. There is no such thing as a “British” accent. Technically, it shouldn’t even be called an “English” accent because there are several different accents up and down the country. But yes, it is extremely annoying. I remember once I was talking to an American girl online and she thought that English and Scottish accents were the same. ARGH! I blame Julie Andrews.
