Why do small snails climb to the aquarium surface, usually along the back wall?

Most species of aquatic snails acutally get a certin amout of air from from outside the water and so are going to the surface to breath. A recommendation for getting rid of the snails, place a piece of lettace or other leafy vegtable in the tank preferably wilted as they tend to go after decaying vegtable matter. Leave it in over night and then remove it in the morning you will probably get a good number of snails with it. Another suggestion is to put a bottom feeder tablet in a small container (make sure the material is aquarium safe. The snails will climb in to get in usually in large numbers and then can be removed easily.
