Why do sharks bite people?
Shark attacks are usually a case of mistaken identity. Most sharks eat primarily seals, and far from going out of their way to attack us, they usually avoid us. So why are people bitten by sharks? When a surfer is paddling out, they lay on their stomachs on their boards. The shark is swimming under the water and looking up. The shark sees the surfer from below. Outlined against the sun, laying on his board, the surfer looks like a seal. The shark thinks “Ooh, lunch!” and attacks. Once the shark bites in, and tastes a skinny human instead of a fat seal, it usually gets bored and swims away.
