Purgatory is an invention by Papal authorities to reduce sinful behavior by their followers. However, well intentioned, I believe that it is a false doctrine that questions the veracity of the words of Christ on the cross when He said; “It is finished”. All of a believer’s sins were dealt with judicially at the cross. Do believers sin? Yes, we do.. If we claimed otherwise, we would be liars and the truth would not be in us. Will believers experience discipline either caused or allowed by God because they have not confessed and forsaken their sins.. Yes, they will.. But this discipline takes place here on Earth prior to our going to be with Christ. To be “absent from the body and present with the Lord” should be the hope of every believer. Who would dare suggest that a believer would go to be in “Purgatory” with Christ? Perish the thought, my dear brethren.
