My friend, over the years I’ve probably met and have known a lot more artists personally than you have and I think I can answer this as fairly as anyone. Modern (abstract) artists that I know of don’t ‘hate’ realism and realistic art. In fact, most artists when young start out drawing, then painting more realistic art, then move on to more modern styles. This also includes a long list of famous artists, like Picasso and Andy Warhol (both gifted as realist artists) Most of the artists I have known personally move away from realism simply because of the ‘been there, done that’ syndrom. There is virtually nothing that has not been already painted with realism that hasn’t already been painted a thousand times over. How many thousands of times can you paint a cow or a bridge or a house before it all starts to look the same?
