Why do pharmacists need so much education?
Pharmacists do much more than put pills into a bottle. Pharmacists are medication experts. Pharmacists are required to know everything about how a medication works and what effects it has on the body. This requires advanced training in biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, as well as pharmacology. Another part of pharmacist education is in the area of counseling. Pharmacists counsel patients on the proper use of their medications. They also counsel patients on how their medications might interact with certain foods and OTC products. Pharmacists also consult with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers concerning medication therapies.
