Why do personal hygiene and cleaning products contain animal-derived ingredients?
Because of the massive amounts of animals slaughtered for food – 10 billion land animals in the US each year– there are a lot of byproducts leftover after meat. I read that if you lined them up nose to tail, they would stretch from Earth to the moon and back 5 times. That’s a lot of body parts after you take off the muscle tissue. The industry exploits the animals for every penny they can squeeze out of them, going so far as to boil the leftover bone, skin, and tissue to extract collagen. Then they add artificial color and sugar and market that weirdness to the consumer as a gelatin dessert. There is an enormous amount of “waste” from farms and slaughterhouses that is used for everything from soaps, to energy production, to computer parts, Many people are smearing dead animals all over their bodies, driving with them in their cars, cleaning their homes with them, using them in their electronic devices, even eating them, without ever realizing it.
