Why do people wish hell on a mistress after an affair, yet wish the (cheating) husband & wife well?

I SOOOO agree with you! While I don’t condone the “other woman’s” (or the “other man’s”) role in all this, it is the cheating spouse that violated his or her marriage vows. People are quick to forgive when the spouse wants to make nice. It’s easier for the wronged spouse and family members to villify the other woman / man than to hold the cheating spouse accountable (although they are often going to pay in private, for sure!). The cheating spouse was not forced into the affair at gunpoint, and they are equally culpable, if not more so.
