Why do people who support capital punishment care about the method of execution?
Good question. Some people who support the death penalty support execution by torture. That preference says a lot about them. Other death penalty supporters are concerned that when someone is put to death, the fact of their dying is sufficient retribution. What is interesting to me is that many people who support the death penalty are expressing concerns about the risks of executing innocent people. 127 wrongfully convicted people have been released from death row. DNA is taken from fewer than 10% of all homicides and cannot guarantee the execution of innocent people.
