Why do people want to become accountants?

I am assuming that the question should be ‘Why do people want to become an accountant?’ Some people really like working with numbers; the right answer is usually pretty clear, so you feel successful, unlike being a lawyer, where much of your time is spent preparing for court where a judge will decide the outcome and your client might be dissatisfied with it. Also, unlike being a dentist where you have to inflict ‘discomfort’ on your patients in order to treat them. There are always job openings in accountancy so it’s easy to get a job, even if it’s not at the level you want. It pays fairly well. As a legitimate profession, it also carries some status benefits, even if there are lots of jokes about the career.
