Why do people use fluoride toothpaste?
Eskimo, I believe you have been misinformed about fluoride. The fluoride they put in water is 1:1,000,000. that is 1 part per 1 million. This could not harm a fly! And it is VERY beneficial and has been scientifically proven on multiple accounts to reduce the amount of cavities. There have only been a few incidents where fluoride has killed people and it hasn’t been from brushing your teeth or drinking tap water: give me a break. Too much fluoride can cause mottled teeth (which means they look a little discolored and have slight pits in them) but it prevents cavities. This is how fluoride was actually found to prevent cavities; a dentist saw that alot of his patients had mottled teeth but none had cavities. They went on to prove that having 1:1,000,000 parts fluoride in water was not harmful at all to your health and was very beneficial to your oral health. Nitrogen is harmful; why don’t you protest air in general.
At one time it probably was helpful to add flouride to toothpaste in areas where the soil and water were deficient. But now with all the flouride we’re exposed to through drugs and pollution it’s unnecessary. I also think it should be illegal to add it to water supplies. Recently in my area a new dentist came to town and declared since the people he was seeing in his office all had cavities flouride should be added to the water immediately. What he didn’t realize was that our water supply comes from underground springs that contain high amounts of naturally occuring flourine.This is insanity. People should demand that floride be removed from their local water supply. Thanks for raising this issue.
