Why do people think record sales make an artist good?

0

Most people don’t make music and aren’t in the industry, and usually the only people that they hear talking about the industry are usually the people who can afford to put a mass media message out there through videos, or MTV or BET or VH1 and stuff like that. The low record sale groups or artists, regardless of how good they are, don’t have the logistics to get their music out there for people to hear and the only way they can get a foothold is to work through the industry and gain respect that way. So basically, most people don’t know anybody in the industry and turn to pop music outlets for their information, and it’s basically pay-to-play to even get your message out. History is written by the winners.
