Why do people think it is ok to pirate music?
Because some people belief that music is art, and cannot be bought and sold. Or that music is information, and that all information (books, films, music, etc.) should be free. I’m inclined to agree. Edit: You make many valid points. But I find fault in your Best Buy argument. My obligation in question is to the artist, not the retailer. If I buy music at Walmart, I’m still not supporting Best Buy. If I buy music online, I’m not supporting Best Buy. If I buy music directly from an artist I’m not supporting any retailers. Artists and studio musicians and such should be paid, and obviously they are. I don’t steal all of my music. I just fail to see the harm in downloading, say, The Anthology of American Folk Music, the songs on which were not legally acquired in the first place, and whose editor is dead.
