Why do people think ghosts are real?
The average person lacks basic critical thinking skills is the best answer I can come up with. They hear something, read something, and assume it’s true. Their own personal experience and feelings are more important than the factual truth. Truth which most people do not know how to question or where to get. If there is no proof of something, the default reaction should be to dismiss or question it, not to believe it. The most disconcerting thing of all is that those who do think and question are looked down upon, as if they were somehow pooping on someone’s parade. Anyone who has email has received loads of email hoaxes that nobody bothers to check. When you mention it’s a hoax, people are offended. I even got the reply “but some people like it”.
