Why do people still deny the holocaust?
Why is it illegal for them to do so? If I deny that there was a genocide in Rowanda in 1994 I haven’t broken a law, or if I deny that the Christian crusades took place who will arrest me? In all three cases I would be historically wrong, but why is one denial illegal, while the others aren’t? The effect of the law banning holocaust denial, and the ‘racists’ labeling of anyone who challenges the received history, is to stifle debate. Historians who challenge the official history have their careers ruined. Political theorists who challenge the official history are vilified and condemned as extreme racists before their arguments are heard by the vast majority of the public. There are many different denial theories about the holocaust. On the extreme right there are those who deny the holocaust ever took place.
