Why do people start setting up chairs a week in advance of the actual parades?
The Festival is the event of the year for the citizens who live or own businesses along the parade route. Many start setting up their chairs in preparation for the festivities as early as a week in advance of the parades for prime seating. In other cases, many civic organizations, including Boy Scout troops and church groups, rent chairs to view the parades from their sidewalks as fundraisers. They generally advertise their availability with small flyers along the parade route.
