Why do people say don wear white after labor day
Years ago when the fashion industry dictated what you wore, wearing white prior to Memorial Day and after Labor Day was considered taboo in the USA. This was mostly a marketing ploy, in order to get the consumer to buy into what was considered “appropriate” for each and every season, forcing the people to change their wardrobe. Seventy, sixty, fifty years ago, people were more prone to follow these rules and would not be caught in public wearing white prior to Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Mind you, when this “rule” was established there were other “rules” as well … such as the hemline on a skirt. Skirt hemlines would go up and down with the seasons, up and down with each passing year. To wear a hemline that was two inches below the knee when everyone else supposedly had theirs at four inches below the knee was considered out of fashion.
