Why do people run the A/C when opening a window works just as well?
They might be tiring to bring down the humidity in the house, for running the ac removes water from the air. You do know the difference between a heat pump and an air conditioner right? A heat pump has an outdoor unit that runs either as a heater or to cool the house, where a window mounted AC unit usually is just for cooling, but not always. Some window mounted units can also just be fans to blow outside air into the building, and most have a filter. I know I like it cold when I sleep, also the sound drowns out other things that keep me awake.
