Why do people own machine pistols?
A licensed Machine Gun Dealer is allowed to have a “dealer sample” machine gun. In the case of the Glock 18, this is usually a used gun purchased from a law enforcement agency. A licensed manufacturer can take a semi-auto Glock 17 and legally convert it to full auto, but it can only be sold to another manufacturer or dealer as a “dealer sample” or to a government agency. Many dealers that have these guns rent them for use on their own range ot take their friends out to shoot them. That is where most of these videos come from. Also, there are no Glock 18 or Beretta 93R machine pistol that are legal for private ownership. The 1986 ban on new machine guns is specifically for domestically manufactured machine guns. Importation of machine guns for sale to anyone other than licensed dealers or government agencies was prohibited in 1968. Since the Glock and the Beretta are both imported guns and manufacture of them did not start until well after 1968, there are no fully transferable examples
