Why do people have kids and then stick then in a nursery?

Wow… That’s a crappy attitude. I am a stay at home mom. We aren’t on easy street financially, but it’s important to everyone in our family that I am home with our daughter. If we put her in traditional school (we may homeschool, haven’t decided) I will try to get a part time job at the school, so I’ll still be off with her on breaks, summers, etc… I do think parental influence is crucial, not just during the early years, but through all childhood. Right now, me staying at home is the best way to accomplish that, but we could also achieve it by my husband staying home, or both of us working opposite shifts. I don’t believe the “daycare is necessary for socialization” myth either, nor do I think there are inherent benefits for the child from having multiple caregivers. We do not plan to use preschool, as I can teach her anything she would learn there on my own, or through various play groups/enrichment programs we attend together. If we put her in school, we’ll start with a tradition
